Raw extracted data is rarely ready for export. Prices contain currency symbols, salaries contain ranges, dates use inconsistent formats, and nested API responses need flattening. RTILA X transformations clean and standardize extracted values.

Trim

Removes leading and trailing whitespace from text values.

{
  "transformation": {
    "type": "trim"
  }
}

Prefix and Suffix

Adds text before or after the extracted value. Useful for constructing URLs or adding currency symbols.

{
  "transformation": {
    "type": "prefix",
    "value": "https://learn.rtila.com"
  }
}
{
  "transformation": {
    "type": "suffix",
    "value": " USD"
  }
}

Replace and Regex

Replace exchanges a fixed string for another. Regex uses a pattern to replace matching text.

{
  "transformation": {
    "type": "replace",
    "find": "$",
    "replace_with": "",
    "flags": ""
  }
}
{
  "transformation": {
    "type": "regex",
    "pattern": "\\$",
    "group": 0,
    "flags": "",
    "default_value": ""
  }
}

Extract Regex

Extract a subset of text using a capture group. This is perfect for pulling a number from a salary range or a price from a sentence.

{
  "transformation": {
    "type": "extract_regex",
    "pattern": "\\$([0-9,]+)",
    "group": 1,
    "flags": "",
    "default_value": ""
  }
}

Cast

Change the data type of a value, such as string to integer or float. Good for sorting and numeric comparisons.

{
  "transformation": {
    "type": "cast",
    "to": "float",
    "default_value": 0
  }
}

JSON Parse and JSON Path

When your extraction result is itself JSON, parse it first and then navigate with a JSON path expression.

{
  "transformation": {
    "type": "json_parse",
    "default_value": ""
  }
}
{
  "transformation": {
    "type": "json_path",
    "path": "$.data.items[0].name",
    "default_value": ""
  }
}

Script

Use the script transformation for custom logic that the built-in transforms cannot express. The helper API gives access to navigation, extraction, network, and data utilities.

{
  "transformation": {
    "type": "script",
    "code": "return value.toUpperCase();",
    "default_value": ""
  }
}

Join

Joins a list into a single string. This is useful for turning multiple tags into one comma-separated value.

{
  "transformation": {
    "type": "join",
    "separator": ", "
  }
}

Try It Yourself

Run Data Transformation scenarios 1 through 5. Each scenario isolates a specific transformation pattern while the expected output section shows the cleaned result.
